The LCGC group is located in a 110-square meter space that houses our sample preparation and instrument areas, as well as an independent student's lounge.

Our facility was recently renovated thanks to Petrobras and Rhodia/Solvay grants.
We highlight bellow some key features of our facility.​

GCxGC, TRACE1300 (ThermoFisher Scientific). This system may be fitted with numerous injection (SSL and PTV) and detection modules (FID, TCD, NPD, ECD). This instrument uses an AS3000 liquid autosampler. Dual detection is available using SGE's microfluidic splitters.

GCxGC-QMS, TRACE1310+ISQ (ThermoFisher Scientific). This system may be fitted with numerous injection (SSL and PTV) and detection modules (FID, TCD, NPD, ECD). The ISQ mass spectrometer exhibits a high capacity pumping system to ensure enhanced sensitivity. This instrument uses a complete TriPlus RSH autosampler for liquid injection, headspace (HS) analyses and solid-phase microextraction (SPME). The vacuum probe interlock (VPI) interface allows ion source maintenance without comprising the instrument's vacuum. We achieved low ppb levels for the instrument's detection limits when analyzing nitrosamines (SIM-mode). Dual detection is available using SGE's microfluidic splitters.

GCxGC-QMS, TRACE1300+ISQ (ThermoFisher Scientific). This system may be fitted with numerous detection modules (FID, TCD, NPD, ECD). Sample introduction is attained by using the OPTIC-4 multimode injection system by combining split/splitless and temperature programming capabilities. This enables the analyst to explore, thermal desorption, direct matrix introduction, large volume injection etc. Dual detection is available using SGE's microfluidic splitters.

GC(xGC)-HRAM-MS/MS, TRACE1310+Q Exactive GC FT-Orbitrap (ThermoFisher Scientific). This system may be fitted with numerous injection (SSL and PTV) modules. This instrument uses a TriPlus RSH autosampler for liquid injection and headspace (HS) analyses. The VASE desorption module is also available for large-capacity, vacuum assisted sample preparation. The VPI interface allows ion source maintenance and column exchange without comprising the instrument's vacuum. Acquisition rates up to 42 spectra/s is available. Maximum mass resolution: 120,000 (m/z 200). Low ppb levels for the instrument's detection limits in 'full scan'-mode. For more sensitive analyses, t-SIM and t-PRM (i.e., MS/MS) is available.

Column switching UHPLC, Ultimate 3000 (ThermoFisher Scientific). This system uses a PDA and CoronaCAD detection modules for liquid chromatography.

ESI-MSn, LCQ 3D Ion Trap (ThermoFisher Scientific) + HPLC 1200 (Agilent Technologies). This platform is used for high throughput flow injection analyses (FIA). Since complete signal resolution is not obtained, data generated from this platform is frequently used for untargeted analysis by applying chemometric and machine learning algorithms.

(Multiuser Facility) UHPLC-HRAM-MS/MS, Ultimate 3000 + Q Exactive FT-Orbitrap (ThermoFisher Scientific). This platform is used for both untargeted and targeted analyses featuring high-mass resolving power (140,000 @ m/z 200). This is an ideal platform for analyzing small molecules in trace levels.
